Therapeutic Intensive Therapist- limited outpatient caseload.
Ian is a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience in trauma healing, outpatient addiction treatment and attachment healing. He uses an encouraging and empowering therapeutic approach and promotes client accountability through individual, couple, family and group formats.
During his nineteen years in the mental health field, he has worked with both residential and outpatient clients; in acute crisis, community, and school-based mental health; in the juvenile justice system. He also has experience in clinical administration, where he oversaw and grew multiple mental health clinics in North Idaho. He has participated in behavior health education through an NPR radio series and has been interviewed for several newspaper articles over the years. Ian gives back to the mental health field through adjunct teaching at a local university, speaking at seminars and training events as well as supervision for both CSAT and LAC. He also offers trauma training workshops in both secular and church settings. Currently, he is the clinical director at Willow Tree Counseling and focuses his client work through multi-day trauma healing intensives.
Ian believes healing is possible for anyone, no matter how significant the trauma, if clients are willing to take a step in a different direction. He walks alongside his clients through their journeys of self-discovery, awareness and growing ownership in their lives. He has worked with a variety of clients from young to old with a vast array of issues. One of the many tools Ian uses is adventure therapy, which allows clients the option of adding an experiential component to therapy. Trained by Project Adventure, he was a high/low ropes course facilitator at a residential treatment facility, where he used a variety of experiential activities to promote growth, healing and change.
